Autumn colours of New Forest, a weekend hiking adventure

Details

Join me on a serene weekend exploring the New Forest and enjoying the amazing sensory experience of Autumn. The forest that period of the year is positively glowing with oranges, reds, yellows and greens.
This beginner-friendly overnight is a fantastic introduction to New Forest National Park, in this edyllic corner of Southern England and very close to London. It was proclaimed a royal forest by William the Conqueror, featuring in the Domesday Book.In the 18th century it was a source of timber for the Royal Navy. It is a habitat for many rare birds and mammals.
We'll be hiking in the woods and heathland from the village of Brockenhust. Past cider farms and orchards and thatched cottages, through peaceful woods in autumn colourscape, we'll have ourselves a relaxing jaunt and take in all the sights and sounds of this special place. Though once a royal hunting forest instituted by William the Conqueror, the forest has a long history of being utilised as grazing commons and is teaming with the iconic ponies and cattle that shape the environment to what we see today. We will reach our overnight accommodation in a small countryside village and have dinner at a nearby gastropub.
After spending the night in a country house hostel, we'll spend Sunday exploring more of the forest.
You don't need a car as we are starting from a train station. A truly relaxing and enjoyable weekend away.
We will be staying at YHA New Forest, a newly refurbished hostel in a rural setting. I have booked us in private rooms. There is a self-catering kitchen and comfy lounge for us to relax in.
