Scenic hike through Ardingly Reservoir, Balcombe Lake and Ouse Valley Viaduct

Details

GRADE: Intermediate, 18km (11m), 450m ascent, 5.5hrs walking time. Circular undulating hike on footpaths through woodland, pastures and lakesides.

This diverse and charming path guides us through the scenic Sussex Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), taking us on a journey through ancient woodlands to discover a hidden treasure and a remarkable feat of Victorian engineering - the awe-inspiring Ouse Valley viaduct.
As we leave the valley behind, we ascend to the picturesque shores of Ardingly Reservoir, romantically set between steep hills, where we'll trek along the High Weald Landscape Trail. We will then descend to meander through the enchanting grounds of Wakehurst Place, Sussex's wild botanic garden affiliated with Kew Gardens.
Continuing along the trail, we will reach the charming Balcombe Lake, winding our way through pastoral landscapes, woods and hidden farms before finally arriving in the quaint village of Balcombe, where you can catch the train back home, or join us in a cosy pub.
