🥾 Hassocks to Brighton Hike – Devil’s Dyke, Monarch’s Way & Coastal Finish
South Downs hikes | Sussex walking trails | Brighton coastal walks | Devil’s Dyke hike | day hikes from London
Join GO London Hiking for a wonderfully varied adventure through Sussex, filled with sweeping coastal views, legendary landscapes, and fascinating stories. Starting at Hassocks Station, we follow the trail through Butchers Wood, heading west to Poynings, where the ascent to our dramatic lunch stop begins.
At 217m, Devil’s Dyke offers one of the most iconic viewpoints in southeast England—rich with legend, geological interest, and local folklore. From here, we follow the Devil’s Dyke Road briefly before joining the Monarch’s Way, a historic footpath said to mirror King Charles II’s escape route in 1651 after the Battle of Worcester.
Our journey continues through peaceful countryside into Hove, where we pass St Andrew’s Church—the final resting place of George Everest, the man behind the world’s highest mountain’s name. From here, a refreshing coastal stroll takes us along the Brighton seafront, ending our South Downs ramble in true style.
Optional social or sunset views in Brighton for those who’d like to stay longer!
