Ethiopian Folk Song Workshop - with Fitsum

Our new project has started last week with an Indian boat song!
This week our host is Fitsum, presenting "Tsehaye Demekechned".

For a lot of children growing up in Ethiopia, "Tsehaye Demekech" (which means "The Sun Has Shone") wasn't just music, but a morning ritual, a shared memory, and an optimistic anthem ✨.

Background info about the song:
The inspiring words to this song were written by visionaries who happen to be a writer named Almtsehay Wedajo and then rendered in the form of music by the voices of the Yewoket Amba ("Fortress of Knowledge") — children who have experienced war-induced hardships, becoming orphans.
Every Saturday morning, as kids lay peacefully in bed without the pressure of attending classes, the soft notes of this song echoed in Ethiopian households through the radio.
Whenever parents found it difficult to articulate their future dreams 💙, this song articulated for them through the lyrics that gave birth to a feeling of dignity, warmth, and hope in the whole generation of children 🌅.
