Hi everyone đź‘‹
Our first book for the book club is Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë.
We’ll be reading it and then coming together to discuss it in detail, so please take your time with it and feel free to note down any thoughts as you go.
To help guide your reading and get the conversation started, here are some themes and questions to consider:

### Key themes to think about

  • Love and obsession – Where does love end and obsession begin in the story?
  • Revenge and cycles of hurt – How do characters pass pain from one generation to the next?
  • Social class and status – How does class shape relationships and choices?
  • Nature vs civilisation – How does the wild landscape reflect the characters’ emotions?
  • Isolation and belonging – Which characters are truly “at home,” and why?

### Questions for discussion

  • Do you see Heathcliff as a romantic hero, a villain, or something in between?
  • Why do you think Catherine makes the choices she does?
  • What role does the setting (the moors, the houses) play in the story?
  • Do any of the characters actually find happiness?
  • How does the structure of the narrative (multiple narrators and timelines) affect your understanding of the story?

Looking forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts when we meet!
