What we’re about
FLorida Atheists and Secular Humanists (FLASH) is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization funded by members and donations. FLASH was originally founded as Atheists of Broward in 2004 and incorporated in 2006. As we grew and expanded beyond Broward County, a new, more inclusive name was needed and we became FLorida Atheists and Secular Humanists, or FLASH. FLASH has members across Palm Beach, Broward, and Dade Counties.
All of us have been through, or have friends who have gone through, a process of de-converting from the religious faith in which we were raised. Some of us are still in that process! We seek the truth, no matter where it takes us. It has been a life changing process for many.
We are the atheists next door. We are the people who work everyday jobs – firefighters, teachers, electricians, programmers, and more. We are mothers, husbands, siblings and friends. We are the one in six Americans that do not claim a religion. We don’t believe in gods or devils, heaven or hell. We are normal, ethical people who rely on reason and logic to guide us, not faith and superstition.
Our events are open to the public, but some will have associated costs. We'll be doing good deeds at highway clean-ups, food drives, and blood drives. We'll also be hosting guest speakers with topics important to the freethought community and beyond.
