Landscape was founded by Robin Koek, Nick Lapien and Arjan Rietveld. What unites them is a fascination with environmental sounds that informs their contemporary practice as designers, educators and curators. Koek and Lapien are not only independent artists, but also form the artist duo Artefakt. Rietveld founded the label Field Records in 2008, through which he releases eclectic electronic music by artists such as Artefakt, Imaginary Softwoods and Monolake.
As part of Press Play, the Landscape team will talk about their background and shared interest in field recording and how environmental sounds have influenced their current practice. They will also share some of their favourite sound pieces - both past and present inspirations.
As a result of increasing technological developments and the fast pace of contemporary urban life, it has become increasingly difficult to actively listen to the world around us. Conscious listening is a tool that strengthens relationships with the environment and unites communities in sharing their unheard narratives. Landscape aims to encourage this act of active listening and stimulate creative processing through an interactive programme that integrates field recording and environmental storytelling.
Landscape work with non-profit organisations that are committed to diversity and inclusion and are intertwined with local communities. In the next period, Landscape will bring Dutch and German partners together by presenting the radio production as part of the programme in collaboration with the Rewire Festival (Outreach Programme, The Hague, Friday 5 April 2024) and Refuge Worldwide (Berlin, Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 June 2024). This collaboration is supported by the Fonds voor Cultuurpartitipatie.
