Redbuds in Bloom on Pittsburgh's North Shore Trail
Details
Thanks to the Pittsburgh Redbud Project of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, more than eighteen hundred redbud trees have been planted along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail. Sierra Club leader David Herndon will guide us along the North Shore portion of this trail while we enjoy the beautiful blossoms of the redbud trees. We will also enjoy beautiful views of the Allegheny River and Downtown Pittsburgh.
We will walk from the Kamin Science Center (formerly the Carnegie Science Center) to the Rachel Carson Bridge, and then we will turn around and return to our starting point. The total distance out and back is about two miles. This walk is suitable for people of various ages, for couples and singles, for families with children, including children in strollers, and for wheelchair users. No special skills, physical conditioning, or equipment are required. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring water, snacks, a hat, and sunscreen.
