Meetup #13 FerretDB & Kubernetes

Details

Hi dear goleng friends
pls join our Discord channel here https://discord.com/invite/QDY6dFZg

The Theme of the second Golang Serbia meetup in 2024:

The talk introduces FerretDB, an open-source project developed using Go in response to MongoDB’s licensing changes. FerretDB serves as a proxy, allowing seamless interaction between unmodified MongoDB clients and PostgreSQL databases. We’ll talk about why we made FerretDB and what we plan for it in the future. A big part of our talk will be about the tricky problems we faced and how we used Go to solve them. We will also share what we learned while making FerretDB, including the good parts and the tough parts.

"Demystifying Kubernetes" talk will go over what Kubernetes is and why it is so popular today. We will go in-depth into what hides under the hood of Kubernetes, giving you a clearer picture of Kubernetes. "What are the components of Kubernetes?", "How do they work together?", "Where can I run a Kubernetes cluster?" are all valid questions, and we hope to answer all of them in a half-hour presentation.

About speakers:

Elena Grahovac is the Director of Engineering at FerretDB. With over 15 years of experience in software engineering and a foundation in Applied Mathematics and Informatics from Novosibirsk State Technical University, she specializes in reliability, particularly in developing high-availability applications using Go, and in building teams capable of creating such applications.

Petar Cvitanović is a software engineer currently finishing his master's degree in computer science. He was first introduced to Go a few years ago when working as a backend engineer implementing microservices in Go and he has since been using it as a primary programming language. His work experience includes working in large companies such as Uber and Superbet but recently, as his focus moved from being a backend developer to DevOps and SRE technologies, he co-created a startup building a tool that helps developers deploy their applications to Kubernetes clusters called Cyclops.
