2nd meetup with @francesc from google

Details

Golangit, the italian Go user group, comes to its second meetup, this time with a great host: @francesc from Google :-)

@giorrrgio and @liuggio will introduce the group to all the newcomers and will take some time with the audience to listen to ideas, proposals for future activities. Then @francesc will hold a very interesting talk, quite cross-topic and for a broad audience. Find the abstract below.

After the meetup, we well grab a beer++ and a pizza :-)

Here's the abstract:

Go: object oriented and concurrent (just not the usual way)

On this talk I present Go as the sweet spot between different paradigms for object oriented programming and concurrency.

Where Python provides the flexibility of duck typing but with the corresponding runtime errors, and Java provides its interfaces Go provides structural subtyping, which results on the flexibility of duck typing with the compile-time checking of Java interfaces.

I also present concurrency as a sweet spot between the mutexes and locks used in Java and the async model present in other languages like Python, Ruby, or NodeJS.

Francesc Campoy Flores is a Developer Advocate for Go and the Cloud at Google. He joined the Go team in 2012 as Developer Programs Engineer and since then he has written some considerable didactic resources and traveled the world attending conferences and organizing live courses. He joined Google in 2011 as a backend software engineer working mostly in C++ and Python, but it was with Go that he rediscovered how fun programming can be.

He’s on twitter @francesc
