ReactJS: Bring your laptops! Lets Code!

In an effort to keep the javascript meetup alive, we would like to start a series of meetups with a practical focus, targeting ReactJS (and probably some redux thrown in).

The project will be completely group decided, with the first meetup discussing directions for implementing small projects based on ReactJS. The goal is to be able to identify problems that can and cannot be solved with ReactJS and to learn together in the process.

For the first meetup a quick introduction to ReactJS using the create-react-app cli tool by facebook. Following that, a discussion is planned on what people would like to work on deciding on a small project for the first month. We can get to work right away and try to get environments etc worked out, optionally work on the project as homework throughout the month, and use the beginning of the following month as a burndown to discuss how we solved certain aspects, or what difficulties we had during the month. We can then decide if we want to continue the project or start a new one.

Arrive early for pizza (approx 18:30-18:45) so we can kick off at 19:00 to discuss the future direction of the group to be more ReactJS focussed.

To do the practical you will likely need the following software installed:

• node

• npm

• npm install -g create-react-app

Creating a test project would be handy too so we can work on it together

• mkdir ~/gcjs

• cd ~/gcjs

• create-react-app hello-world

• cd hello-world

• npm start
