TYPE: WT (Walk & Talk) | PACE: Conversational | TERRAIN: Mostly sidewalk, some grass/dirt trail, some road | DIFFICULTY: Moderate, due to sloping hills and some steep stretches in first half of walk | DISTANCE: Approx. 4 mi | COST: Free
From the newly updated Norman D Park, we will follow the extended Tucker Gulch trail under Hwy 93, visit the historic Brickyard House, and wander along the classic Hogback Ridge in North Golden. We will traverse time, from a multi-use trail completed in 2015 to a a Foursquare Romanesque brick house built in the early 1900's to a geologic structure (the Dakota hogback) created millions of years ago ...
This walk is scheduled as part of a weekend festival — Jane's Walk, founded by Jane Jacobs — intended to be a "walking conversation" about the places we live, work and play. We'll explore a slice of North Golden for its natural beauty, its place in Golden's history, and the "mystery" of the Golden Fault.
We'll begin near the parking lot by making introductions and starting the walk NO LATER than 3:10pm. We should be done walking no later than 5:30pm (and maybe earlier).
The walk will occur, rain or shine. Please be sure to RSVP so we can notify you in the event the trip is cancelled unexpectedly. Thank you! Feel free to contact walking trip host (Saoirse at 303.709.7529) if you have questions!
First Timers/Waiver: If this is your first time walking with this trip leader or if you have not completed a Welcome Waiver this year, please arrive 5-10 minutes early to connect, learn more about the walk, and complete a waiver.
Parking: There will be limited parking in the parking lot, with ample parking in the neighborhood closeby. Please arrive early enough to park your vehicle and meet in the park promptly at 3:00pm.
Dog Friendly! We will be doing a loop back to our starting location. Please be consider whether your dog can handle 4 miles when walking in this season and insure that your dog is calm, well behaved and MUST stay leashed. Please be sure to bring baggies.
Restrooms: There will be a portapotty at our starting point.
Consider Bringing: Comfortable socks & shoes (pref. non-cotton socks!), light backpack w/water and snack foods (almonds, bars, fruit), camera, sunglasses & sunscreen (and hat if you wear them), several (thinner) layers depending on anticipated temperature and light rain gear just in case.
Golden Walks are intended to be very informal and to give us all unique opportunities to connect with one another, ourselves and our surroundings.
Let's walk!
