Toro,Toro!!! 11.5 miles, 2800 ft elev. gain
Details
We meet at Buckeye picnic area or lot 2 in Toro County ( Monterey County park) park. Toro county park has many picnic areas that are located 1-3 miles from each other, so please pay attention to my directions. Meetup's default point Quail Meadow, please ignore this name - our parking lot Buckeye, see point on map
I know it is long drive, I'll try to set carpools.
Last time i hiked there in Dec 2023 and was lost, we found my car just around 11pm and park gates were closed. I'll tell full story who won't be afraid and join this hike.
Toro park has trail on official map that don't exist in Alltrail and physically don't exist either and has trails that are shown in Alltrails that not exist on official trails and completely overgrown now. I hope that now I picked physically existing trail except one that I have to check , trail where we were lost.
Hike will start from 4.5 miles uphill with very steep short sections , about 1-2 miles flat and 4-5 miles not very steep downhill
Our route: East Ridge tr -> east Toyon tr ( last section that crosses Cory canyon is my main check) -> Black Mountain tr -> Black Mountain (2129' , our lunch spot) -> Ollanson Peak (1800') -> Ollanson tr -> Meyers tr -> Ollanson tr -> hike between different picnic zones -> Wildcat Canyon tr back to cars
Our pace: 2.5 -2.8 per mile. Hike's length and elevation gain is based on AllTrails route estimate. Real one can be longer .
It is good to have >2.5L water, sturdy hiking shoes , hiking pants, layers clothes , and lunch food.
It is not good idea to join the hike if you don't plan to complete full route.
Contact me using private meetup messages or comments in case you have questions. I may help with carpool options.
