On Sunday, April 15th, BLIP's Legal Hackathon (a Goodnik partner event) willtry to bring the hacker ethos to policymaking, advocacy, and legal practice. The afternoon is filled with workshops that ask questions like:* How can we crowdsource the next mayor of NYC?* What does a model privacy policy for an ISP look like?* How should corporations protect the civil and political rights of theircustomers?* How can technology improve openness and transparency in corporate decisionmaking?

One interesting workshop, for example, is "Law Mob NYC: Trolls andCrowdsourcing Legal Resources for Nonprofit Missions". This workshop take onthe interesting issue that the Electronic Frontier Foundation has tried tochampion: trolls and copyright infringement. A representative from EFF willpresent this issue for the workshop, and then participants will brainstorm tocrowdsource the unwieldy amount of legal and research work involved inassembling a case.  The goal is that this workshop will produce a template fora larger platform that nonprofits and social entrepreneurs that would allowthem to aggregate legal work and research toward any number of sociallyconscious mission. Any organization that has similar data-intensive needs isinvited to attend and provide a case study of how crowd sourcing might helptheir mission. Click here for full details and registration information (did I mention it's free?).
