Intro to Building AI Agents with Google's ADK
Details
Learn how to build AI systems that can reason, plan, and use tools to accomplish tasks.
Join us for a hands-on introduction to Google's Agent Development Kit (ADK), where you'll build your first AI agent in a 90-minute workshop.
We'll move beyond simple chatbots and build autonomous agents that can use Google Search, make decisions, and generate responses. By the end of this workshop, you'll have created a working "Day Trip Genie" agent that helps users plan day trips.
šÆ WHAT YOU'LL BUILD
In this hands-on workshop, you'll create your first AI agent - The Day Trip Genie
This agent will:
Understand natural language requests from users
Use Google Search to find real-time information
Consider budget constraints and user preferences
Generate detailed travel itineraries
You'll learn the three core components of any AI agent:
Agent - The brain with instructions and tools
Session - The conversational memory
Runner - The execution engine
š ļø WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Required (Please Bring):
Laptop with a web browser
Google account (for Colab access)
We'll Set Up Together During the Workshop:
Google Cloud Platform (GCP) project
Gemini API key
$5 GCP credits (provided free via codelab)
No prior AI experience needed. No local installation required - everything runs in Google Colab.
š WORKSHOP FORMAT
Duration: 90 minutes
Agenda:
0-5 min: Welcome and overview of AI agents
5-25 min: Guided GCP & API key setup (we'll do this together)
25-70 min: Hands-on: Build the "Day Trip Genie" agent
70-85 min: Preview of the full 8-week series
85-90 min: Q&A and interest form for extended series
š WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This workshop is for:
Developers curious about AI agents and LLMs
Software engineers exploring agentic AI systems
Tech enthusiasts who want hands-on AI experience
Anyone interested in building with Google's AI tools
Basic programming knowledge helpful but not required. We'll walk through everything step by step.
š” WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
By the end of this workshop:
Understand the architecture of AI agents
Know how to give agents tools (like Google Search)
Create agents that follow specific instructions
Set up and use Google's ADK framework
Have a complete, working agent you built yourself
š WHAT'S NEXT?
This intro workshop is the first step toward a potential 8-week ADK Crash Course series that would cover:
Custom tools and API integration
Multi-agent systems
Conversational memory
Advanced orchestration patterns (Routers, Sequential, Loop, Parallel)
Building production-ready agent applications
At the end of this session, we'll share a commitment form for those interested in the full series. No obligation - this intro session stands alone.
š BASED ON
This workshop uses the official Google codelab: "ADK Crash Course - From Beginner To Expert" by Qingyue(Annie) Wang (December 2025)
