Machine Learning Foundations Study Group, session #1 (November update)

Details

Every developer today needs to be fluent in machine learning. Join us in building your expertise:

👉 Master the fundamentals of AI by studying together. 🤖

Meet monthly to tackle key concepts together in an interactive study group over free coffee and drinks ☕. Everyone will be assigned bite-sized chapters with exercises to keep on track. Alternative months will meet virtually.

Show commitment and receive exclusive swag from Google and JetBrains.

Ready to unlock your Machine Learning potential?

Textbook: AI, A Modern Approach, Google Director Peter Norvig

Details: Every developer today needs to be conversant in ML. For many of us however, it's been a while since we learned it. Join us in studying together to rebuild our expertise and take a journey through the basics underlying ML!

This will be a series of study sessions every month, where we'll assign a chapter and its exercises. To participate, you must commit to doing the assignments and supporting your study partners. Participants will receive cool swag and mutual encouragement.

Prerequisites: CS fundamentals (algorithms, data structures, complexity) at sophomore level or later

6:30pm - Show up, discuss
7:00pm - Review assignment
7:30pm - Plan next session

Pre-work: (120 minutes)

Russell & Norvig, exercises 1.1 to 1.9.

Want to refresh? Study with the Math for ML series too.

Meet: PSU Library. Check-in as a library guest if not a student. Find us 3rd floor by the whiteboard quad (just west of elevators). Bring assignment to discuss in groups of 5.

Next Month: Read Chapter 2 AIMA. Exercises 2,1,2.4, 2.10, 2.11. Post on your github and email info@gdg-portland.dev with link.

This is a self-study group: all prepared and ready to encourage each other are welcome.
