About us

This group is for anyone interested in what the Buddha actually taught.

The Buddha has been dead for more than 2,500 years, and in those years, a lot has happened. Many new ideas have sprung up and been attributed to the Buddha. Luckily for us, the monks of the early Sangha were highly dedicated to preserving the teachings by way of chanting. About 400 years after the death of the Buddha, the teachings were written down. These early texts have been carefully translated into English and can be read by anyone for free on the internet. They are not mysterious or secretive in any way; rather, they are highly repetitive and full of easily understandable similes and stories.

This group is an attempt at clarifying what the Buddha said in a genuine way. If it weren't for these teachings, I would be suffering immensely, and my gratitude to the Buddha, Dhamma, and Sangha is far beyond the reach of words.

The teachings are based on the Four Noble Truths, which include the Eightfold Noble Path. This path is not some arbitrary philosophy; it is the path to peace, happiness, and freedom from suffering. Buddhism is now a world religion because of one reason and one reason alone: what the Buddha said.

There are two things necessary for learning the Dhamma:
- The voice of another
- Wise attention (own investigation)

Here I want to offer the voice of another and the potential for a community which is all important on the path.

May our hearts be warm and our heads cool :)
