Hill Climb - Silver Falls

Details
This is a ride for hill climbers! It is one of my favorite routes, starting in the town of Silverton. It is published as an out & back ride to the first overlook. At that point, the group can decide whether to do the out & back, and or complete the waterfall loop. The mileage and cumulative altitude will be about the same for both options.
Most of the climbing occurs riding up to the first overlook in the park, approximately 16 miles/2000 ft.
With recent rains, the full waterfall route might be appealing, but will have more traffic. Our decision will be based on traffic, wind, and temps on the day we ride. On recent rides out there I have not encountered any log trucks, and have made friends with motorcyclists, LOL.
Bring a power snack to have at the halfway point at the overlook. Please bring two water bottles. There are no commercial facilities along the way.
The weather so far looks, dry and calm on the chosen date, but changes will be posted.

The out & back ride is approximately 33 miles with 2900 ft of climbing. There are two major climbs, one at the very beginning and one at the 12 mile point, which is the turn onto Silver Falls Highway. However there are some smaller hills and fun rollers in both directions. The entire ride is on two lane rural roads without bike lanes. This is a low traffic route, but there may be occasional trucks.
Please study the route and elevations. If you are not comfortable with these conditions please do not sign up for the ride.
Restrooms at the start in Silverton. There may be porta potties at other overlooks on the full loop.
To contact me, Marcy, text to 503-539-9226. (Marcita is a social media name.)
Optional coffee in Silverton after the ride.
Attitude/Altitude: This is a ride for folks who like to climb. Everyone rides at their own pace on climbs and we will re-group strategically. There will be a rest stop at the first overlook pictured.
Weather Cancellation Policy: Wet or very gusty weather cancels this hilly ride. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jeB9_VmkNc
Required Gear: HELMETS must be worn at all times while riding. This is a requirement and not a request.
Recommended Gear: Always bring plenty of water, snacks for energy, a flat repair kit, including a spare tube. A tool kit and small pump is good, but if you don’t have one there is usually someone on a group ride who does. Please check to see if someone has what you might need if you don't and be prepared to ride a bus or call a cab. (Not that we'll leave you by the road broken down, because that's not us). Carry a credit card and a little cash to buy refreshments or buy that bus ticket....
Mandatory for all riders: Obey traffic laws and remember you’re a representative of the greater cycling community and should conduct yourself that way on the road. Please represent us well. If you haven't read it lately please read the Oregon Bicyclist Manual (http://goo.gl/Q8FNe3)
All riders must have their rides in good working order and must bring a flat kit & spare tube. If there is an issue with proper working or lack of equipment you may be asked to sit the ride out. Please ask for help if you are ill equipped prior to the ride. We will try to help!
All riders must be able to change a flat should they have one or have a way to get picked up (AAA, Tri-Met ticket, a friend…). There is often, but not always someone on the ride who knows how to help you change your tire, so plan accordingly.
Note: Your RSVP signifies that you agree to the following. Organizers, event hosts and other participants will not be held responsible for any individual at any event. Each rider rides at their own risk and is solely responsible for any damage to their equipment or themselves.
Final Note: RSVP’s cannot include a +1 or Guest. If you choose to bring a friend or family member, they themselves must sign up as a member of Go the Distance.
Final note. No ear buds.
