A Guided Tour of the Moon

Hej everyone!

Welcome to the very first meetup of Gothenburg Stargazers! For our first event, we will be treated with some incredible views of the moon through a telescope. There will be a quarter moon this night, which is the perfect time to view it because the shadows from the angle that the sun's light hits it will really bring out the depth of the lunar montes (mountains) and craters.

You are welcome to look through my telescope and binoculars or bring your own. This is a beginner-friendly group, so no prior experience is necessary. Either way, it will be a great night for everyone to meet each other and do some stargazing.

The moon should be visible around 11pm, so we will meet at the viewpoint at the top of Ramberget in Keillers Park around that time and stay for around three hours or so. If you're going by bus, Rambergsvallen or Wieselgrensplatsen are the best stops to get out at. You can easily walk from there to Keillers Park.

Of course, you are free to come and go as you please, but please be considerate and use a red light or keep your flashlight off when you are approaching the group. This is important for preserving everyone's night vision.

What to bring:

• Water, soda, or other non-alcoholic beverages
• Snacks
• Blankets and warm clothes - it will probably get cold, so be sure to bring layers.
• Something to sit on (if desired)
• Binoculars (if you have them)

As always, keep in mind that stargazing is very dependent on the weather, so we may need to cancel or reschedule on short notice if conditions aren't right for viewing. I will keep an eye on the forecast and give the go or no go ~24 hours before the event.
