Monitoring and Managing Edge Devices at Scale with Grafana: The ProRail Approach - Ho Yeung

This talk presents how ProRail has implemented a scalable and efficient monitoring solution for its IOT2050 edge devices using Grafana and containerized services. Attendees will learn how system metrics, Docker container statuses, and MQTT data are collected from edge devices and visualized in real-time dashboards, enabling both operational oversight and historical analysis. The session covers the integration of tools such as Grafana Agent, Alloy, Node Exporter, Mosquitto, and Node-RED—deployed through Portainer—to build a resilient monitoring infrastructure. We’ll also showcase interactive Grafana dashboards, including a nationwide map of edge devices, and explain how alerting mechanisms help detect issues early and reduce downtime. This session is ideal for observability engineers, systems specialists, and anyone interested in edge monitoring and infrastructure visibility at scale.

🎙️ Ho Yeung is currently working at ProRail, focusing on the development of an observability platform designed to streamline the collection and processing of measurement data. His work involves integrating diverse measurement devices into a system, automating data validation processes, and leading the visualization of data using Grafana. He collaborates with end-users and technical teams to ensure effective data presentation and decision-making, configuring Grafana in a Kubernetes environment.

Logs, Metrics, Traces, and Mayhem: An Interactive Observability Adventure - Imma Valls

This is a hands-on introductory session on observability. Through an engaging text-based adventure, you'll learn to diagnose and resolve issues in your systems. This workshop covers essential observability tools —metrics, logs, and traces — and shows how to leverage them effectively for real-world troubleshooting and insights in your application.
Bring your laptop for this session. Docker and git or a browser to run this on a killercoda playground are prerequisites. You can also work in pairs.

She also loves sharing with local communities and helping them connect and thrive.
