💡 Speaker One:
Juan Carlos Rivera Avila, Software Engineer, Mimacom
Title of Talk:
Opentelemetry: A standard to monitoring Kafka with Grafana Labs
Abstract:
In a world where distributed applications and microservices are the norm, having effective monitoring tools has become indispensable. In this talk, we will explore OpenTelemetry, an open-source standard that facilitates the collection, transformation, and export of telemetry data, regardless of the observability platform used.
We will focus on how to use OpenTelemetry to monitor Kafka and leverage this data through Grafana Labs, one of the most influential tools in the OpenTelemetry project.
We’ll cover best practices for deploying OpenTelemetry in your services, showcasing practical examples and tips to keep in mind for a successful implementation.
Bio:
Juan Carlos is an observability specialist with solid experience in monitoring distributed systems using OpenTelemetry, particularly in high performance environments such as Apache Kafka. His focus is on maximizing visibility and optimizing the performance of complex architectures, providing critical data to improve the reliability and operational efficiency of systems. Throughout his career, he has developed and implemented monitoring solutions that help teams anticipate problems and make informed decisions in real-time.
💡 Speaker Two:
José Ignacio Gil Jaldo, Principal Engineer, Grafana
Title of Talk:
Kafka in Grafana Cloud, use cases, deployment and the o11y
Abstract:
An overview of the use cases we implement in Grafana Cloud using Kafka, how do we deploy it as code and observe it
Bio:
José is a Principal Engineer at Grafana Labs where he focuses on the Cloud services. Has been using Kafka since 2015.
💡 Speaker Three:
Ramón Marquez, Senior Solutions Engineer, Confluent
Title of Talk:
Event Driven Architectures with Confluent
Abstract:
In this presentation, we will explore the origins and purpose behind the creation of Apache Kafka, delving into the powerful role it plays in modern data infrastructure. We’ll examine the additional value that Confluent brings to Kafka, enhancing its capabilities to meet the evolving needs of today’s businesses. Central to our discussion will be the concept of event-driven architectures, highlighting how they enable organizations to break away from monolithic structures and move toward more modular, flexible solutions.
Bio:
Juan Ramón Marquez is a Senior Solutions Engineer with a strong technical background in big data and real-time data streaming. Currently at Confluent, he focuses on helping organizations harness Apache Kafka-based platforms to enable real-time data processing, storage, and analysis, integrating advanced tools like AWS, Azure, GCP, Terraform, Kubernetes, Apache Flink, and ksqlDB. In addition to his core role, he provides technical mentoring and guidance to new engineers, ensuring they succeed in complex, data-driven environments. Previously, Ramón held technical positions across major tech firms, including IBM, Talend, and Devo, where he specialized in data integration, quality, and analytics. His hands-on experience includes deploying solutions using Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, MongoDB, and Elasticsearch, among other big data and AI frameworks.
