September 14, 2025 - Limekiln Canyon Park Hike

Details

Lately, we've been experiencing about a 50% no-show rate for our hikes. We kindly ask that if you RSVP, please make every effort to attend—or at the very least, let us know in advance if you can’t make it. Your consideration really helps us keep things running smoothly for the whole group.

HIKE RATING SCALE - (This hike is easy)
Rating a hike is subjective, meaning the difficulty of a hike will be in direct relation to how often you hike and the type of hike you prefer. Keep in mind that any hike can have the following: un-even hiking surfaces, various obstructions, water crossings or rock hopping.

  • Easy: 1-2 miles with easy terrain (flat road) and little elevation gain.
  • Moderate: 2-4 miles with moderate terrain and some elevation change.
  • Challenging: 4 or more miles or varying terrain.

This is a good event for someone who does not want to hike alone or wants to learn the trails in the surrounding area. All of my organizers have years of experience in trail walks and runs. We will be limiting the number of attendees so the organizers and myself can safely keep track of the hikers and not overcrowd the trail. We tend to hike as a big group and leave no one behind.

Join us for a beginner moderate hike/walk through Limekiln Canyon in Porter Ranch (San Fernando Valley). Our experienced organizers and I will be leading the way on this 4-mile out and back trail, starting from Limekiln Canyon Park off Rinaldi Street.

The first 2 miles of the hike will be a moderate uphill, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced hikers. We want to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, so we will be limiting the number of attendees to avoid overcrowding the trail. Rest assured, we will hike as a group and leave no one behind.

The trail offers a variety of terrain, including asphalt, hilly fire road, single track, and leisurely strolls through the park and a few small creek crossings.

To keep you fueled and hydrated, we will provide water and snacks before, during, and after the hike. Considering the hot weather, please dress appropriately and wear sturdy hiking shoes. Don't forget to bring bug spray and sun block for added protection.

All ages are welcome, but anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian. On the day of the hike, you can spot our organizers by looking for our red shirts near the Limekiln Canyon sign.

Come join us for a memorable hike, where you can explore the trails and enjoy the beauty of Limekiln Canyon in good company!

Address: 19585 Rinaldi St, Porter Ranch, CA 91326.

Date: September 14, 2025.

Time: Our departure time is 7:30 AM due to the heat. Please try to get there a few minutes early so we can do a quick safety briefing.

Where to meet: In between Tampa and Corbin at the Limekiln Canyon Park sign.

Distance: About 4 miles out and back.

Difficulty: Beginners and experienced hikers. (The first 2 miles are at an incline)

Dogs: Must be on a leash per state law, but please be aware that rattlesnakes and coyotes have been known to be on the trail.

Restrooms and water fountains: None

Parking: Along Rinaldi Street - There is no parking lot so you must find parking on the street. Parking can fill up fast, so I advise getting there early. Optional parking is available at the Ralphs shopping center parking lot on Rinaldi and Corbin.

Clothes: Please dress according to the forecasted weather. This hike will be cancelled if extreme heat or high winds are forecasted.

Dangers to watch out for: Rattlesnakes, coyotes, tarantulas, skunks, heat exhaustion, poison oak, stinging insects and uneven ground that can cause falls. If you are allergic to bees, please let the group leaders know and bring a EpiPen if required.
