We are brainstorming a guided tour to Barolo and Barbaresco. RSVP to this event to confirm “interest”. Anticipated cost is $2500-$3000 per person depending on total group size and final itinerary.
Travel & Arrival Logistics
• Plan to arrive at Milano Malpensa Airport (MXP) by 1:30 p.m. on Sept 30.
o Those departing with me from Grand Junction, CO will leave September 29 at ~1:00PM.
• Meet in front of the Europcar rental kiosk by 2:30 p.m., with a planned departure at 3:00 p.m. for Barolo.
• Once we have vehicles sorted, we’ll drive to Barolo and settle in for our adventure.
🗓️ Proposed Trip Itinerary
📍 Sept 30 — 1:30PM Arrival in Milan, Italy
• Milan (MXP) (Be careful there are two airports in Milan) → Barolo
• Meet at the T1 Europcar kiosk after arriving and collecting luggage, depart by 3 p.m.
• Settle into accommodations in Barolo.
• Take care of initial items like finding an ATM, etc
• Dinner w/ reservation at local restaurant.
📍 Oct 1 — Barolo & Barbaresco Wineries
• Walk to coffee and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of the quiet village of Barolo.
• Visit Fratelli Seghesio Winery and a second winery (Likely Moccagotta Winery).
• Isaac will release a pricing sheet for each winery, to be kept as a personal reference, but he will also provide a notetaking guide for the winery so that everyone can take notes on their favorite wines. These notes can be referenced later when choosing which wines to buy back home.
• A relaxed dinner and evening in Barolo.
• Dinner at “Locanda in Cannubi” an exquisite Barolo restaurant specializing in Piedmont-style food.
📍 Oct 2 — More Tastings & Michelin Dinner
• Winery visits including Giacomo Grimaldi Winery. Alberto has agreed to let us taste a bottle of 20+ year old Barolo.
• Charcuterie Lunch
• Visit to Ceretto Winery. (~$200 additional)
• Evening Michelin restaurant (IL CENTRO) and wine pairing dinner. (~$250/person)
📍 Oct 3 — Free Day / Optional Activities
Come roam around the area exploring cafes and restaurants as we wander around Barolo, Italy. We will stop into the Wine Museum and our chef will be preparing ingredients for the evening meal. We will also go to a grocery store and see what kind of goodies we can find to bring home. (Italy has the best pistachio butters and toothpastes!)
• Wine Museum (optional)
• Cooking Class at our accommodation in Barolo.
o No pork, no shellfish (or at least served on the side so long as no comingling of foods)
📍 Oct 4 — Return to Milan
Return toward Milan for city experiences — cathedrals, museums, architecture, shopping/markets, additional cooking class, and dinner.
• Leave Barolo by 11AM
• Take the scenic route back to Milan, arrive at accommodation by 4PM drop luggage and most passengers.
• Return Cars by 5PM, taxi back to accommodation.
• Attend another cooking class, walk/bus to class.
📍 Oct 5 — Milan Activities
Attend our next meeting to get the Milan interest list and Isaac will be booking the fun activites.
• El Duomo de Milan, walking tour tickets with summit access. Consider the Rick Steves audio guides.
• Stroll through the shopping district and through the plazas on our way. If convenient stop and see another piece of architecture or art.
• Stop and eat lunch where we find convenient.
• Visit Basilica and see “The Last Supper” painting
• Eat dinner TBD
• Attend a soccer match Italy vs Turkey (?) (Tickets not yet on sale.)
📍 Oct 6 — Departure
Group disperses and heads home.
