January Meetup - Bitcoin 101
Details
It is 2023 and Bitcoin is now 14 years old! Come join us for our January Bitcoin 101 event. The Bitcoin 101 events take place quarterly and are focused on the basics. If you are curious about Bitcoin but are just getting started, this is the event for you. We provide a safe and welcoming environment to allow newcomers to feel open to asking questions.
One of the first lessons of Bitcoin is "Not your keys, not your coins," which means, if someone else is holding your bitcoin "for you," you do not own any bitcoin. Upon the recent collapse of the FTX exchange, many learned this lesson the hard way. It is important to learn how to take self-custody safely and securely.
This month, Captain Youth will be guiding a workshop on using Blue Wallet, a mobile wallet that allows you to hold your keys and even connect to your node.
The Factory will once again be hosting us! Drinks will be provided.
- 5:00-6:00: Social Meet & Greet
- 6:00-6:30: Workshop - Blue Wallet
- 6:30-8:00: Informative Discussion
- 8:00-11:00: Bar Crawl?!
We are starting to outgrow our space. Get there early to grab a seat. Our space is limited to 20.
This is a Bitcoin-only event. We welcome everyone but the focus will be on Bitcoin, not "crypto." This is done to keep the educational experience rooted in fundamentals, as well as to prevent confusion, false information, and scams.
Bitcoin discussions can involve topics such as:
- Math
- Food
- Health
- Money
- Energy
- History
- Politics
- Finance
- Education
- Economics
- Philosophy
- Technology
- Game Theory
- Human Rights
- Computer Science
