Hike 100 Challenge and Potluck: MDOT US-131 Rest Area to Spring Lake SFCG

Details

Another opportunity for Grand Traverse Chapter's 2025 Hike 100 Challenge! Join the Grand Traverse Chapter of the North Country Trail Association on an 8.4 mile hike that starts at MDOT US 131 Rest Stop and ends at Spring Lake State Forest Campground. This hike follows a portion of the Manistee River and part of Spring Lake in a beautiful forest.
This 8.4 hike is happening approximately at the same time as a 4.5 mile hike (see separate MeetUp Event soon) led by a different hike facilitator. Choose either hike as they both culminate in a celebration potluck at Spring Lake State Forest Campground for National Trails Day!
See additional event(s) regarding the shorter hike and potluck.
This particular 8.4 mile hike will take approximately 4 hours and includes some car shuttling as it is a point to point hike.
Meet at 9 am at MDOT rest stop. A quick shuttle and off we go to discover this wonderful segment.
Breaks will be taken as needed, but a break at 4 miles is guaranteed for hydration and snack.
Poles are optional, good hiking boots, bug spray is recommended. Don't forget sunscreen, hat, lots of water!
Note: There is a 3/4 segment on sandy road.
Please RSVP on MeetUp so we can contact you if there are any changes or updates.
Rain or shine, but no hiking in thunderstorm.
Rest stop is located on US 131, 2.6 miles south of M-113
