"Mexicology": The WINES (and cuisine) of Mexico!!

Details
Okay, I would sign up for this tasting just for the food (this will be held at the fantastic BAR SAN MIGUEL in Carroll Gardens!) But for real....these wines will blow your mind. Mexican wines are hidden under the shadow of tequila and Mezcal, but truth is....they're INCREDIBLE. And PREMIUM. Many of their wines are from small production family estates. These are not cheap wines, neither in quality nor price...and the flavor bombs will back that up. Here are the wines that will be poured*:
-
CASA MAGONI "Manaz" Viognier-Fiano (Baja): a funky blend of a French grape with an Italian varietal, made by a creative winemaker who started at the famous LA Cetto estate.
-
DUOMA "Double Grenache" Pet-Nat Rosado (Guadalupe/Baja): a sparkling rosé made from Grenache Blanc & Grenache Noir grapes!
-
DOMINIO DE LAS ABEJAS "Naranja" (Valle de Ojos Negros/Baja): an ORANGE wine made from Chardonnay-Sauv Blanc-Colombard-Marsanne-Viognier grapes.
-
TRES RAICES Nebbiolo-Sangiovese (Guanajuato): one of the most award winning wineries, featuring two of Mexico's best grown Italian grapes!!
-
ADOBE GUADALUPE "Gabriel" Cabernet-Merlot-Malbec (Baja): Beware of flying socks, because they're about to be knocked off. This big-mama Bordeaux blend is a show-stopper!
And of course, we'll talk about & explain what all these label terms mean!
(*subject to change only if absolutely necessary or inspired)
As with any Grape's Anatomy tasting held at a restaurant, here are the guidelines:
Please order at least two dishes (main and either appetizer or dessert) to support the restaurant who is reducing/waiving corkage fees, no drinking and driving, and you are responsible for paying for your food plus tax and 25% tip (boosted to cover some of the wine service value.) Cancellations will only be refunded if someone else takes your spot. Also, the charge for this event covers the wine only; you will pay the restaurant separately for your food. Finally, Meetup has started charging a “ticketing” fee on top of our wine charge. It varies, but has been running about $3-4.
This mini-Masterclass will run with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10ppl. We will pour approx. 2.5oz of each wine per person, in total the equivalent of about 2 full glasses of wine. Hope to see you there---CHEERS!
