ARGENTINA: Malbec is only the beginning!
Details
Here we go....an exploration of the sensational wines from Argentina along with authentic regional cuisine at BALVANERA (LES neighborhood), one of the most outstanding Argie restaurants in NYC, owned by acclaimed chef Fernando Navas!
And while there will be a deep, plump, dark, inky Malbec to drink, we will taste the lesser known varietals of this country that are also incredible! These are the six wines we will experience*:
-
Orange: Rubio a Contramano "Naranja" (Pink Moscatel) ($25)
Funky notes of sour apricot, biscuit, quince, and tangerine -
White: El Montanista "Corte de Blancas" (Torrontes-Malvasia) ($24)
An explosive nose of jungle orchids, tropical botanicals, and citrus all day -
Red: El Montanista "Viejas Tintas" WHOLE CLUSTER (Barbera-Bonarda-Freisa) ($24)
Wild "Luxardo" cherry-berry nose, teeming with magenta and hibiscus -
Red: El Indigo (Bonarda) ($14)
Argie's best kept secret; notes of stewed plums, coffee, tobacco, cacao -
Red: Pulenta Estate "Gran XI" (Cabernet Franc) ($46)
A showstopper; enormous, deep plunge into chocolate covered espresso beans meets sundried cherries and cranberries -
Red: Baron Edmond de Rothschild "Flechas de los Andes" (Malbec) ($27)
Plump, rich, dark, and velvety with perfect dark purple fruits and a hint of mint & espresso
And of course, we'll talk about these unique flavors & bottles while we sip!

As with any Grape's Anatomy tasting held at a restaurant, here are the guidelines:
Please order at least two dishes (main and either appetizer or dessert) to support the restaurant who is reducing/waiving corkage fees, no drinking and driving, and you are responsible for paying for your food plus tax and 25% tip (boosted to cover some of the wine service value.) Cancellations will only be refunded if someone else takes your spot. Also, the charge for this event covers the wine only; you will pay the restaurant separately for your food. Finally, Meetup has started charging a “ticketing” fee on top of our wine charge. It varies, but has been running about $3-4.
This mini-Masterclass will run with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 9ppl. We will pour approx. 2.5oz of each wine per person, in total the equivalent of about 2-3 full glasses of wine. Hope to see you there---CHEERS!
