Graphs in Pharma: Intro & UCB case study

Details

While we are all getting ready for and starting to enjoy the Belgian Summer, we wanted to make sure that we planned another graph database meetup in Belgium for September. And of course we are going to do that at the new "Temple of Data" of the Data Innovation Hub in Brussels. Our first meetup a few weeks ago was a GREAT success, and for those of you that could not make it - I think you will all like the venue: close to public transportation - and not too difficult to get to with a car (if you really wanted to).

For this night we have a couple of ideas in terms of content that all relate to "corporate networks" - stuff that we read about in the press all the time since the Panama Papers broke:

• "Short Intro to Graph Databases". Rik Van Bruggen will illustrate how you can quickly get started with Neo4j using one of the great datasets out there.

• "Preparing for the successful launch of a new UCB drug using graph databases":

UCB is entering a new therapeutic area with an innovative drug helping patients suffering from osteoporosis. Finding influential stakeholders in this new area is paramount to prepare for a successful launch of this drug. Influence is inherently defined by human interaction. To truly capture influential players, state-of-the-art methodologies therefore rely on Social Network Analysis (SNA) techniques applied to professional collaborative networks. Graph databases play a crucial part in the success of these new methodologies because they enable computer scientists to apply these metrics to large scale networks. Together with partner XAOP an innovative solution was created which gives teams at UCB direct access to the collaborative networks of 450,000 researchers hence enabling them to directly experience the power of the network. In this presentation UCB and XAOP will share the results and lessons learned from this successfully completed project.

Where, DigitYser, Boulevard d'Anvers 40, 1000 Bruxelles

We look forward to see you there.

Cheers

Rik
