Alistair will give an overview of the techniques and technologies for visualising graph data, and explain where these work well for different types of problem.

Graph databases help you to express the connections in your data. Simply by visualising those connections, you have a simple analysis tool, and a compelling user interface.

Seeing Graphs

This talk is about graphs - social graphs, communication graphs, even criminal graphs.

Graphs are everywhere and are important predictors of behaviour. Although storing and analysing graphs in a scalable way is essential, for example using a system like Neo4j, to truly understand a graph we have to see it.

'Seeing' the graph sounds easy but in practice is very hard. Most real world graphs are too large to see at once, making techniques like filtering and aggregation essential. Also, graph data is often ‘dirty’, filled with artifacts that can disrupt the visualisation process and limit our understanding.

Using live demos and real world examples throughout, this talk will explain how a variety of visualisation and analysis techniques can help us overcome these common graph data problems.
