Intellectual Property For Graphic Designers: What It Is, How It Affects You, and How to Protect Your Work.
We are fortunate to have Attorney David Adler return as a guest speaker to our MeetUp this June. This time around, he is going to explain what, exactly, intellectual property is, how it pertains to us as Graphic Designers, and how to go about protecting our work and the work we do for our clients.
He has been one of our most popular speakers to date, and we have had numerous requests to bring him back for another event. This is a MeetUp you don’t want to miss.
He will cover such topics as:
• Protecting Ideas:
-Brand Identity Issues: Trademark searches and evaluations; selection, adoption, registration and enforcement of trademark rights
-Content Issues: protecting original work, work-for-hire, imitation v. inspiration
• Safeguarding Relationships
-Drafting and negotiating contracts for protection, exploitation, assignment and licensing of intellectual property rights
-Protecting business information, trade secrets and confidential procedures and know-how
-Ins & outs of Confidentiality and Non-compete Agreements
• Tips for resolving intellectual property disputes.
Afterwards, we will have a Q&A session with Mr. Adler, time to network with fellow designers, and have an opportunity to speak with Mr. Adler about his law firm, and see how he might be able to help you with his services if you are currently a Freelance Designer, or if you are looking to become one in the near future.
We will be providing beverages and food, as we typically do at our events.
