Learn to Build an online Portfolio in WordPress!

We are going to have a presentation and workshop on building a Wordpress Portfolio. In the digital age, it’s imperative that designers have an electronic portfolio or website in addition to a classic hardcopy bag to show to prospective employers. If you want to have an opportunity to receive any phone calls for a design position, you need to have a link to even a basic portfolio page that reflects a sampling of your design work.

We’ll cover basic construction of your site, and we’ll cover other key Wordpress items such as:

What is wordpress.com and how is it different from wordpress.org

• Hosting your site

• What can I make my wordpress website do?

• SEO plugins How to use plugins like YOAST to help folks find your site

• Where to search for and purchase a quality theme online?

• And More

If Wordpress isn’t your thing, we’ll touch briefly on other portfolio building sites such as Creative Hotlist and Guru, though we won’t get into extreme details on either platform.

This will be a tutorial where you can simply follow along and take notes, or if you wish, bring your laptop, have a few digital portfolio pieces ready to go, and get ready to gain the know how of assembling your own personal portfolio website in Wordpress. Boone Harris is a graphic designer who has over eight years of agency experience working in deadline-driven industries for both B2B and B2C marketing. He is well-versed in a myriad of traditional art mediums and computer programs for both Windows and Mac-based platforms and has designed works for both print and web... and once even designed a parade float for a client.

Patrick Boland is a Suburban Chicago-based designer and blogger for ChicagoNow.com. Patrick is currently working both as an in-house Graphic Design / Product Design Manager as well as an independent freelance designer for his own Creative Services Company, PBeCREATIVE.

With 15+ years of Graphic Design, Art Direction, and Design Management experience, Patrick's career has focused on somewhat of a niche design market – namely custom graphics, marketing and product design/development for the licensed apparel and custom apparel industries.

Patrick's company, PBeCREATIVE and his own design endeavors allow him to stay active and in tune with other aspects of design including Digital Illustration, Brand Development, Packaging Design, Print Design, Web and even e-Commerce. He is a Wordpress aficionado and enjoys learning, discussing and sharing Wordpress tips and tricks to help other designers and artists take the plunge into the digital world.
