Come Hear These Amazing Speakers!
Erin Fox {Junior Engineer} = Major League Soccer
Yes, GraphQL is yet another JavaScript library, but what's exactly is it? How does it work and is it really better than REST? Not only does it make collecting data from different databases really fast, it executes queries by using a type system defined by your data. This lightning talk will be a gentle introduction of GraphQL basics and will leave you wondering if REST should be put to rest.

Roberto Pedroso {Lead Engineer} = JOOR
Roberto Pedroso, a Lead Engineer at JOOR, has been building high-performance public APIs for 5 years. He has worked in industries ranging from e-commerce to commercial security.
Permissions are easy in REST APIs because clients typically have only one way to request a resource. The same resource hierarchies modeled in GraphQL, however, tend to enable traversal through multiple paths. This makes permissions challenging to implement, and can potentially lead to performance problems.
In this lightning talk, he will share lessons JOOR learned about permissioning GraphQL schemas while building out its new API. He will help you build a robust permissions layer that can scale without slowing down your most deeply nested queries.
