Hey Everyone,

This is our first GraphQL meetup in 2023. The GraphQL Zurich user group will do monthly meetups in changing locations. The idea is to bring the GraphQL community in and around Zurich together by giving them a window into different companies and showing them different ideas around GraphQL.

The event will start at 6:00 PM, with some time for networking and the first talk starting at 6:30 PM. Location, drinks, and food are provided for this event by Digitec Galaxus.

If you want to become a host for one of our future events, please reach out to us - events@chillicream.com.

Events are hybrid and we encourage you to come in person but we will also stream this event on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/live/4o8q164OX98). When you sign up make sure you tell us if you are attending online.

18:00 - 18:30: Welcome

18:30 - 19:00: Talk 1

Andras Köpe, Software Engineer | Digitec Galaxus
Andreas Caspers, Domain Architect | Digitec Galaxus

Improving by reducing – bringing GraphQL to the next level!

GraphQL has been the backbone of Digitec Galaxus' online store for almost 4 years. It started during the transition phase from server-side rendered pages to a React-based frontend. Like many new projects, it started as an architectural monolith based on Node.JS and now causes the typical problems of this approach. We have just started the journey to a federated path based on Hot Chocolate and would like to share some initial insights and comparative benchmarks.

19:00 - 19:30: Talk 2

Martin Artola, Frontend Architect | Swiss Life

Powering the Front-end with React, GraphQL and Relay

Nowadays, fetching and managing data has become the critical pathway of many apps, whether you’re trying to simplify and speed up development or looking for the best user experience.
Technologies like React, GraphQL and Relay play a tremendous role in shifting not only the way we build apps but also how we write code.
If you’re new to this ecosystem, don’t panic! I’ll share with you some tips and walk through some hands-on examples to show you how easy it is to get started and open a world of possibilities.

19:30 - 20:00: Talk 3

Michael Staib, GraphQL TSC Member | Microsoft MVP | Author of Hot Chocolate

What's next for GraphQL?

Let's look beyond the known of GraphQL and focus on what might come next for the GraphQL spec. We will look at the not-so-distant future at features like defer and stream and things beyond that, like client-controlled nullability, object identification, fragment modularity, or struct. We will explore these new spec proposals and look at what we hope to tackle with them. Some of these might never reach the final stage, and others will transform into something different over time.

20:00 - 21:00: Apéro & Networking
