How to study C++ and Boost.Geometry at XM

Details

We are happy to announce our third meetup that will be held physically at XM, in Athens.

We will have two talks, one about how to learn C++ as a beginner and another about the Boost.Geometry library. After the talks there will be time for Q&A, food and networking.

📍 Location 📍

  • Michalakopoulou 80 street, 1st floor.
  • Attendees should register with their meetup name at the entrance

⏰ Date & Time ⏰

  • 18 of September 2025, 19:00

🔗 Prerequisites & Target audience 🔗

The talks are aimed at developers who are interested in C++.

🇬🇷 Language 🇬🇧

  • The first talk will be in Greek
  • The second talk will be in Greek unless there are non-Greek speakers in the audience.

🍀 JetBrains license ruffle 🍀

  • At the end of the event we will ruffle out 2 yearly licenses for a JetBrains IDE.

📃 Agenda 📃

  • 19:00 - "Intro, Agenda of meetup" by Dimitris Platis
  • 19:05 - A message from our sponsor - XM
  • 19:10 - "How to learn C++" by George Doumas
  • 19:45 - "Boost.Geometry: A C++ library for geometric computations" by Vissarion Fisikopoulos
  • 20:45 - Pizza, kindly offered by XM 🍕

🎤 About the talks 🎤

The long road to studying C++

Boost.Geometry: A C++ library for geometric computations

Boost.Geometry is a C++ library defining concepts, primitives and algorithms for solving geometry problems. It contains a dimension-agnostic, coordinate-system-agnostic and scalable kernel, on top of which algorithms are built: area, distance, convex hull, intersection, within, simplify, transform etc.
The library contains instantiable geometry classes, but library users can also use their own legacy geometry types. It also contains spatial index allowing to perform spatial and knn queries on a collection of geometries.
In this talk we will introduce Boost.Geometry focusing on mapping and GIS. The presentation will highlight recent developments in the library and conclude with a roadmap of the future work in Boost.Geometry.
