Out of all the classics members of our group have desired to read, Moby Dick has proven the most elusive.
That copy of Moby Dick you've been meaning to read? The one that's been staring at you, promising adventure on the high seas but somehow never making it off the nightstand? It's time to set sail for the White Whale.
We know you've wanted to tackle Melville's masterpiece—we all have. But like Ahab's obsession, you’ve needed a hardy group of people co-opted into joining your crazy expedition into these written waters. That's why we're setting sail together, as a crew, to finally capture this literary leviathan. Come to the brewery this July and join our local Pequod.
Here's the voyage plan: We're starting with the first 30-40 chapters, but don't get hung up on hitting an exact chapter number. The most important thing is just to start.
Whether you read 1 chapter or 50 before our meeting, we want to dive into how this epic begins:
- Meet our narrator and the other characters of the story
- Get a sense for Melville’s poetic and playful language
- Start to smell the salty sea air
This isn't a sprint—we're stretching Moby Dick across several months, so there's no pressure to finish before our first discussion. Think of July as our departure from New Bedford. We’ll discuss the middle and the end later.
Make Moby Dick your summer read and let’s push off this July! 🌊🐋
