Once upon a time...
This guy built a funeral home on 4st sw back when 14st was the edge of town....he built it both as a business and a house 4 the family....
The business operated on the ground floor...the family lived on the third floor....see the pix!

It was 1922...
Business was boomin!
Running a funeral home then was pretty basic....
I ll spare u the details...
Anyway...
Fast forward 40 years....
The home is now owned by leydens...
Another lovely family biz...
But....
Time to expand....
So....off we go to a new location...
But...what to do with an empty funeral home?
It sat empty and forgotton for a good 20 years....
The 80s!!
Calgary is booming and yes yes we need more pubs....
What about that place on 4st??
That old funeral home??
Why not?
And....
The rose and crown was born.
It existed as a pub from the 80s up until dec 2022 when the present owner (dont go to kildares!)....
left with all the benches fridges and pool cues he could steal in one frigid nite....
Its been empty ....again....eversince.
And....again....
Resurrection!
Its now the elephant and castle!
Opening.....
Well...we dont rightly know when...
But....we re hoping its open by this date and they still have some sorta patio like the rose did.....

Why.....?
Cuz no matter what they do to the place....
Its still haunted!!
