Get your microspikes ready. Let's hike Alum Cave in the winter!

This is a pretty straight forward hike. We will all meet at Sugarlands Visitor Center at 7:45am. Ouch! I know it is early; however, we need to beat the crowd to the Alum Cave Trailhead.

Alum Cave is a beautiful 5 mile hike up to LeConte Lodge. Once at the top there is an option to take a break to eat lunch, and/or view Cliff Tops. The lodge will be closed, so bring your own lunch and snacks.

For the way down, we will hike down Bullhead 3.5 plus 0.4 to Old Sugarlands Trail. From there, we will hike 3.5 miles back to cars at Sugarlands Visitor Center.

The total milage for the hike is about 15 miles.

This is one of the most beautiful hikes in winter with ice formations and clear views. Please, be prepared with warm layers including gloves, a neck gaiter, a hat, microspikes, and waterproof shoes. Keep in mind it will be 15-20 degrees colder at the top, so I recommend bring a puffy coat for when we stop at the top.

Gigi has offered to give a quick 5 minute microspike demonstration at Alum Cave Trailhead before hitting the trail.

One last thing, this is a shuttle hike. I do ask that everyone be willing to help with the shuttle so we can get to Alum Cave quickly.

I look forward to seeing everyone!
