This will be a map marker, shuttle hike.

Distance: 10.5 miles
Elevation gain: 1,200 feet
Elevation decent: 3,636 feet
Type of hike: Shuttle, drive time 20 minuite
Trail: Single track dirt, rocks and roots, etc......

The plan is to meet at Smokemount Campground and take as few cars to the Thomas Divide trailhead as we can, I will need few volunteers for this. We will end the hike along Newfound Gap Road at the entrance of Smokemount and walk back to our campsites.

Starting from the Thomas divide trailhead along Newfound Gap Road the trail will be a roller-coaster of a few ups and downs for the first 5 miles. Turning onto Newton Bald trail we will stop for lunch at campsite 52. Then start our steep decent down Newton Bald Trail to the Campground.

There is not a bald here anymore however we may have a chance to see the flame Azaleas bloom.

Remember to pack your ten essentials: https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/day-hiking-checklist.html

It is important to hydrate the day before the summer heat can drain you very quickly.

Rain gear is always needed in the Smokies even if it is only carried to keep the rain away.
