Prepare yourself for the journey of a lifetime as we tackle the Milford Track, widely regarded as one of the world’s finest hiking experiences. Escape into the dramatic wilderness of Fiordland National Park, where pristine lakes, ancient rainforests, and towering peaks create a landscape of unparalleled beauty.
TRIP OVERVIEW
Spanning 53.5 km, the Milford Track takes us through an awe-inspiring variety of terrains, from lush valleys to alpine passes and tranquil fjords. Along the way, we’ll encounter cascading waterfalls, mist-shrouded mountains, and native wildlife like the Kea. This iconic trail culminates in the breathtaking Milford Sound, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a true natural wonder.
ITINERARY
Tuesday, 25 November 2025: Travel to Te Anau
Morning: Fly from Auckland to Queenstown.
Afternoon: Enjoy a scenic drive from Queenstown to Te Anau (approximately 2 hours).
Evening: Check into accommodation and prepare for the trek. Stroll by Lake Te Anau or unwind in this charming lakeside town.
Hiking Day 1: Wednesday, 26 November 2025 – Te Anau to Clinton Hut
Morning: Take a picturesque boat ride from Te Anau Downs to Glade Wharf (1 hour 15 minutes).
Afternoon: Embark on an easy 5 km hike to Clinton Hut, surrounded by tranquil rainforests and rivers.
Hiking Day 2: Thursday, 27 November 2025 – Clinton Hut to Mintaro Hut
Morning: Hike along the Clinton River through ancient rainforests, marveling at crystal-clear waters and towering peaks.
Afternoon: Covering 16.5 km, we reach Mintaro Hut, nestled beneath the magnificent Mackinnon Pass.
Hiking Day 3: Friday, 28 November 2025 – Mintaro Hut to Dumpling Hut
Morning: Conquer the challenging Mackinnon Pass (1,154 m), with panoramic views of Fiordland’s dramatic peaks and valleys.
Afternoon: Descend 14 km through alpine meadows and past the Sutherland Falls, New Zealand’s tallest waterfall.
Hiking Day 4: Saturday, 29 November 2025 – Dumpling Hut to Milford Sound
Morning: Follow the Arthur River through lush rainforest, encountering cascading waterfalls and vibrant birdlife.
Afternoon: Complete the final 18 km of the trek and arrive at the iconic Milford Sound. Board a boat for a cruise to celebrate our achievement (optional).
Evening: Optional overnight stay in Milford Sound or return to Te Anau (final details TBC).
Sunday 30 November 2025: Return to Auckland
Morning: Drive back to Queenstown.
Afternoon: Fly from Queenstown to Auckland, bringing home unforgettable memories.
ACCOMMODATION
Te Anau: Comfortable motels or hotels (early booking essential).
On the Track: DOC huts offering basic amenities like bunks, mattresses, and gas cooking facilities.
TRANSPORTATION
Flights: Auckland–Queenstown return.
Boat Transfers: To and from the track.
Local Transfers: Organized transport between Te Anau and track endpoints.
COST ESTIMATES
Flights: $300–$450 per person (return).
DOC Huts: $92 per person per night.
Boat Transfers: $200 (return).
Milford Sound Cruise (optional): $100–$150.

Fitness Level: This is a challenging track, requiring good physical fitness.

Leave No Trace: Carry out all rubbish and respect the pristine environment.
