KARIOI SUMMIT DAY HIKE VIA TE TOTO GORGE – TRAINING & SOCIAL EVENT: 20 ATTENDEES MAXIMUM

TRAINING EVENT FOR NEW MEMBERS, FUN FOR REGULARS

This day hike is for anyone preparing for multi-day adventures, as well as those keen for a challenging, social outing. We’re actively preparing for upcoming Great Walks and big trips—this session will build your fitness, confidence, and community ahead of the season.

EVENT SUMMARY

• Meeting point: Te Toto Gorge Car Park (13 km from Raglan)
• Start time: Meet by 8.30AM, start walking 8.45 sharp
• Route: Out-and-back to Karioi Summit via Te Toto Gorge Track
• Duration: 6–7 hours return, with breaks and summit stop
• Level: ADVANCED (steep, muddy, rocky, with chains/ropes/ladders; descent can be challenging)
• Maximum: 20 people (all go on waiting list; Rafick approves attendees)

ITINERARY

• Meet/intro at Te Toto Gorge Car Park
• Briefing on the trail, gear, and weather
• Group hike to Karioi summit, stopping for lunch at the top
• Return via same route to the car park

WHAT TO BRING

• 2–3L water
• Food for lunch and trail snacks
• Sturdy hiking boots with good grip (required)
• Rain jacket
• Warm layers (it can get windy/cold)
• Hiking poles (useful but optional)
• Hat and sunscreen
• Gloves for grip on chains/ladders (optional)
• Backpack with liner/rain cover
• Charged phone
• Gaiters (optional)

• Fuel contribution: $30 per passenger to driver (please pay driver directly)
