Huia to Karekare Beach via Donald Mc Lean, Whatipu, and Gibbons Track 25 km

In joint venture with Great Walks of New Zealand/Aotearoa... and the World

We'll be walking the Karamatura Track to Donald McLean, the Omanawanui Track to Whatipu, the Gibbons Track to the beach, and finally to Karekare Beach. The plan is to drop 4-5 cars (depending on the number of attendees) at Karekare Beach where we'll end the hike, with one driver driving the other drivers to 1320 Huia Road. We'll work out all the details a few days before the event.

Limited to 20 attendees overall.

THE PLAN:

1. Meet at the Karamatura carpark at 8.30 am and start walking at 8.45 am
2. Walk the Karamatura Track to Donald McLean; distance 6 km and elevation gain 600m
3. Walk the Omanawanui Track Whatipu; distance 6 km and elevation gain 692m
4. Walk the Gibbons track to the beach vis Parahaha campsite and then to Karekare Beach; distance 12 km, elevation gain 343m

What to bring:

Enough food, snacks, and water for the day
Warm clothes
Raincoat
Hiking shoes or boots
Hiking poles (optional)

Attendeed will be asked when signing up whether they will be driving or looking for a ride. We'll need enough drivers willing to drop their car at Karekare Beach.

For those getting a ride, please pay your driver $20 and pay $10 to the driver who will take drive you from Karekare Beach to Huia.
