Our members have spoken! Let's discuss the fascinating life and career of pioneering actor and director Ida Lupino! Read the William Donati volume, entitled Ida Lupino: A Biography.

Kirkus Reviews says this about the book: "A respectful overview that lets an icon of women's filmmaking emerge as a full-fledged human being, social crusader, and artist....Donati uses abundant research to coax readers to a broader understanding of his subject—in this case, to reestablish Lupino's position as a top film actress and discuss her directorial accomplishments in aesthetic rather than gender-related terms."

Martin Scorcese referred to Lupino as "A true pioneer. . . . Her work is resilient, with a remarkable empathy for the fragile and heartbroken."

The book has a 2022 edition, but the original, published in 1995, should suit just fine. Check your local library or bookstore for the book, and then come prepared to discuss it! We will also plan which movie of hers to watch and discuss in another Meetup.
