CrowdCamp Spring 2015

Details

Why are many people interested in the crowdspace? What’s all the buzz about crowdfunding and crowdsourcing? Spring forward and explore these niches with CrowdCamp Spring 2015.

CrowdCamps are a vehicle for connecting, sharing campaigns and exciting initiatives that you are promoting or championing, learning from successful or less than successful campaigns of others, building your social network, and enjoying the process of experimenting. It’s about creating an ecosystem of individuals and organizations who want to build awareness and encourage participation in this alternative niche for launching or growing projects, ventures, or philanthropic endeavours. Sounds cool? It is.

CrowdCamps are fuelled by a peer to peer learning environment where each person can be a guru in a specific area and contribute to the knowledge of all attendees in a meaningful way. Whether you’re an opinion leader or an explorer asking questions, you’ll have a place at this inclusive meeting

What you need to know. Attending a CrowdCamp is an easy two step process:

  1. CrowdCamp attendees are required to bring a news article or an online resource which you familiarized yourself with. You’ll have a chance to create conversation about this particular item that has captured your attention. Are you enamoured with a captivating campaign that became newsworthy? Touched by a philanthropic project you read about? Have you had mounds of success with an online resource? Hint, hint, hint.

  2. CrowdCamp attendees are required to bring a campaign they are promoting, have successfully or unsuccessfully promoted, or someone else’s campaign they’re excited about. Let’s throw it up on the screen and discuss it as a group, ask others to join in and contribute, and learn more about everything from rewards that work to styling, layout, and production of a campaign.

The event will put you back a whopping: $5 (for crowdfunding cost of room rental/nametags).

CrowdCamps are also open, inclusive for all project types, and levels of expertise. Whether you are a film producer, a self publishing poet, a tech wizard, mogul, or political organizer, you’ll have a spot. Don’t be afraid to bring colleagues or friend to get involved.

In case you were wondering, we will have some guests from Alberta BoostR, a local platform fuelled by ATB. The platform manager and some staff will be joining us to share more about the crowdfunding platform, some successes, and crowdfunding in Alberta as a niche for alternative funding. The meeting will be part structured/guided, part presentation of campaigns, and part social.

Top three FAQs for you:

What can I expect from attending a CrowdCamp?

You’ll connect with others, experience a peer to peer learning space and increase your knowledge and know how regarding crowdfunding and crowdsourcing, and learn about campaigns that you can fund, share, or review. You may help others solve a problem or be a connector and send them to a resource that can help. You’ll grow your social network and help grow out an emerging ecosystem of crowdfunders and leaders/organizers of campaigns. This all takes place in about 1.5 to 2 hours for now, and as the group interest grows, may turn into a half day event.

Why don’t we do more of these?

They are designed to be held roughly every quarter, which gives you time to explore, fund, lead campaigns, and then connect periodically with this group.

Why are these organized? What’s different about them and other venture groups?

Crowdfunding and crowdsourcing are successful because of great and compelling ideas and being able to share them among people who “get it”. The objective of the CrowdCamps and the meetup is to build that ecosystem out so our campaigns have a shot at getting off the launch pad into the broader populous. Greater Edmonton Crowdfunding is inclusive to all types of campaigns, which makes it diverse. It’s a very open space for connecting.
