What we’re about
Formerly called The Greater Seattle Tarot Meetup, Greater Seattle Astrology * Tarot * Reiki is dedicated to personal growth and spiritual development through energetic and esoteric modalities.
Through regular meetups, in-depth classes, and fun social events, Greater Seattle Astrology * Tarot Reiki seeks to nurture our local community, while expanding our connection through joint collaborations and internationally accessible online events. Join us to learn something new, develop your skills, expand your confidence, and explore.
I was trained in both tarot and energy work in the beginning. Sometimes with--but often without--my awareness, I think these two modalities influenced each other in surprising ways. By combining the trifecta of astrology, tarot, and Reiki in a single meetup, I hope to share all the practices that have connected me more deeply with Self and Spirit.
What I said when I started this group as a tarot-centric meetup still holds. In the following words, written in 2019, you can see how I integrate my main three practices. "We love the tarot both for its simplicity and complexity. All tarot practice begins with the image on the card and the unfolding story in the spread. But a variety of metaphysical traditions inform the system of tarot divination, including astrology, qabalah, numerology, and healing. Through the cultivation of knowledge, the awakening of intuition, and the diligence of practice we seek to apply tarot and its complementary esoteric tools for personal growth and spiritual transformation."
Whether you’re just starting out, or if you’ve followed the Fool for years on this lifelong journey, welcome to Greater Seattle Astrology * Tarot * Reiki!
Currently, we offer meetups both in-person and via Zoom. We typically meet 2-4 times a month. Please check out our event listing to see upcoming opportunities. I hope to see you at our next event!

See all- [ONLINE] Faces of the Decans: TaurusLink visible for attendees
The peculiar and shifting images of the astrological decans confound the intellect but capture the imagination. Could they be symbolic ancestors of the modern tarot’s Minor Arcana? Let’s explore this magical lineage and see for ourselves!
Please join us to meet the Faces of the Decans, observe these curious characters, and recognize the familial traits we can trace to their tarot descendants. As we get to know this extended family, what insights and connections will emerge from the depths of time and psyche?
The history of the magical images of the decans is a long and checkered one, with its foundations resting in ancient Egypt as the basis for the solar calendar, depicting deities as well as the mundane aspects of life they were thought to influence. These images, more often surviving in a written format, endured multiple translations and cultural variations until being revived in the late 19th century as a tool for ceremonial magic.
Monthly Format
In this 12-month online series, we’ll investigate three decans and the related tarot pips per month. We’ll meditate on the traditional decanic images, both in written and visual form. Then we’ll conjure the related tarot card, to reconcile these magical scenes with the imagery of contemporary tarot. We'll conclude with a discussion to share experiences and insights. While we will be taking a primarily experiential approach to the material, prior knowledge of traditional astrology is not essential, but can enhance the meditational experience.

About Your Presenters:
John Michael Allen has been a practitioner and perpetual student (and occasional teacher) of tarot for almost 30 years, employing the cards for divination, personal development, creative work, and magical applications. While being steeped in the esoteric aspects, he has a deep appreciation for the intuitive, and continuously strives to integrate both. He has been a member of Denver Tarot Meetup since 2008 and is currently its organizer, along with DTM’s esoteric sister group, Tarot Geeks.
Joy Vernon is an astrologer and tarot reader in Burien, Washington. She formerly served as the Organizer of the Denver Tarot Meetup and Denver Tarot Geeks and now runs the Greater Seattle Tarot Meetup.
