October R meetup - two talks about R + network with other R enthusiasts!

Details

Join us for the October meetup of the Toronto R group! We will have two featured talks:

Michael Enquist will be talking about Association Rules in R and how to apply them to grocery shopping. Association rules are statements that help to find patterns in seemingly unrelated data or a relational database (information repository). When we apply to a user purchasing a product, we will try to show five other products that the user is most likely to buy together with this product.

Madeleine Bonsma-Fisher, Ahmed Hasan, and James Santangelo will be talking about a graduate student-led participatory live-coding quantitative methods course in R.

Talk abstract: We are a group of graduate students at the University of Toronto who designed and launched an undergraduate course which teaches reproducible data analysis and computational methods to biology students using R. We'll talk about the gap in traditional undergraduate education that makes a course like this necessary, how we implemented it as hands-on workshop-style course, and what we learned about teaching programming in the process.

Doors will open at 6:00pm, with talks kicking off at 6:30. After the talks you're welcome to stick around for some networking, and by 8:00 we'll leave the room (but may head somewhere nearby to continue the conversation!).

The event will be held at Insight Data Science, so please remember to thank them.

By attending, you agree to abide by our code of conduct which can be found at https://github.com/rladies/starter-kit/wiki/Code-of-Conduct
