Remove Invasive Species & Restore the Forest at UVic Queenswood Campus!

We will be removing invasive English Ivy from this beautiful forest. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience doing ecological restoration, learn new skills, and make new friends!

This is the first UVic activity of 2023! We will be sure to have some extra special snacks & hot chocolate for everyone who attends!

MEETING SPOT/PARKING

There is a yellow metal gate off of Haro Rd with a trail to walk to the Ocean Networks Canada. We will be meeting inside this yellow gate by the gazebo.

Carpooling: Use the comments at the bottom of the page to arrange carpooling with other volunteers!

Cycling: There is a covered bike rack at Queenwoos Campus right beside the gazebo

WASHROOMS
There are no washrooms at Queenswood; the nearest ones are at the UVic bookstore

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING
• Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty
• Long sleeves and long pants to protect from thorny plants and insects
• Refillable water bottle with lots of water (we will have water for you to refill with if needed!)
• Sturdy closed toe shoes/boots
• A hat, sunscreen
• Rain jacket in case it rains
• Optional: Your own gardening gloves, tools, and/or safety glasses

WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED TO YOU
• Gloves, tools, and safety glasses if you don't have your own
• An educational instruction on what to do (no experience necessary!)
• Refreshments
• A small thank you gift at the end, donated by a Canadian and/or eco-friendly business

FLOW OF THE ACTIVITY
• Meet at 9:45am for sign-in & introductions (please be on time)
• If you can't find us, please call 778-677-9078
• Receive instruction & demo for the activity
• Remove invasive plants
• Take break for refreshments half way through
• Volunteer until 1 pm then sign-out at end, take home an eco-gift!

We will have masks & hand sanitizer available to anyone who wants them. All of our tools & gloves get cleaned before events, but you are welcome to bring your own too.
