What we’re about
Are you a female or non-binary singer keen to give barbershop a try?
Come and be part of a fabulously supportive group who laugh, learn and smash some a cappella chords. We'd love to meet you!
The Greater Auckland Chorus recently travelled to Kansas City, Missouri, to compete in the Harmony Classic Division A contest (Sweet Adelines International) where we placed first! We are so excited to be the World Champions for 2025!
Our repertoire spans many musical genres, from barbershop standards, jazz and Broadway musical numbers through to pop and rock music from the likes of Queen, Michael Bublé and Meghan Trainor.
We are a competitive Show Chorus that sings primarily barbershop, a four-part harmony a cappella style, that is intentionally arranged and voiced with close-knit chords that produce a thrill for the singer and listener alike. Greater Auckland Chorus is part of Sweet Adelines International and New Zealand, competing nationally as well as internationally.
What you can expect when joining GAC:
* Be ready to have fun and make new friends across all walks of life. We socialise outside of rehearsals and love to have a good laugh.
* We rehearse every Tuesday evening to sing together and improve our vocal skills.
* Regular attendance is strongly encouraged.
* All prospective members go through an audition process to ensure they are singing the best suited voice part and can hold their part when singing in harmony.
* We perform at events and competitions so a desire to entertain and shine on stage is important
* We charge a fee to join the chorus. Fees include national and international membership, coaching, music and more. As long as your membership is pending, you will be charged $10 per week to attend. This will go towards your annual membership fee once you are a full member. The current annual membership fee works out to be less than $15 per week.
We look forward to welcoming you!
