Freethought Society: Thomas Paine New Biography, Graphic Novelist Talk ONLINE

Details
On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 2 pm, the Freethought Society (based in Philadelphia) is pleased to host an online talk IN THE UK (hence the early time here on the East Coast of the US) with the author of a new 'visual biography' of too-often-forgotten freethinking founder Thomas Paine.
The date of this event is September 9, 2025. The time for this event is 2:00 PM EST/1:00 PM Central/Noon PST. This event is originating from the UK.
Join Thomas Paine’s visual biographer (and ardent admirer), graphic novelist Paul Fitzgerlald, aka Polyp, to explore the ideas and the hilariously unbelievable life of this extraordinary thinker, examining how the man who sparked the American War of Independence could possibly have been erased from the usual public narrative.
Paine’s experiences with the fanatically intolerant Robespierre regime raise challenging questions about contemporary polarisations and denouncements, and the vilification he faced in his life for challenging established religion makes for a vivid tale.
About the speaker: Paul Fitzgerald, aka Polyp, is a radical cartoonist. He is the author of Paine: A Fantastical Visual Biography (2022), a graphic novel about Thomas Paine. Information about his other work, including other graphic novels focused on freethinking history, can be found on his website: https://polyp.org.uk/.
