What we’re about
Thanks for finding/discovering the Greater Boston and New England Area Cycling Meetup Group!
We welcome all levels of cycling enthusiasts, from complete novices and recreational riders to bike racers, bikepacking/bike touring enthusiasts.
Our mission is to organize rides which promote and encourage a shared enthusiasm and passion for cycling and all it has to offer, while simultaneously enabling a shared connection between our members, fostering friendships and a sense of shared community.
We organize rides of all types, including rail trail rides, urban/city rides, road rides, gravel rides, singletrack/mountain biking rides, all the way to training/fitness rides which can be used to train for your bike races, or improve your general overall health and fitness. Some of us even ride in organized charity rides and bike races (whose events may be posted on here as well, for those who may be interested). Rides range from slower, moderately paced rides 8-15 mph to fast group rides 22 mph +
Our rides span across all areas of Massachusetts (including the greater Boston area, the Northshore, the Southshore/Cape, Metro West, and out to the Berkshires), as well as across multiple states, including Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.
Any member in our group is welcome to schedule an event or ride (don't worry, we have a template which makes this easy!). If you are interested in becoming a ride organizer, please reach out to the main organizer, who will assist you.
We hope you find this group, our rides, our organizers, and our other members welcoming and friendly. We look forward to riding with you!
Please be advised that cycling is a dangerous sport and you are solely responsible for your own safety. Helmets are mandatory and other protective gear is strongly recommended. Safety is a cheap and effective insurance policy. So why not be safe & Have fun.

REMINDER to sign up for the North Shore Cyclist Blazing Saddles century. There are 4 mapped road rides from 32 to 100 miles, and this year a mixed terrain 54 miler as been added for you gravel riders. Check it out... https://nscyc.org/blazing-saddles-century-2025
for more details.Join us on Thursday this week for a 32-miler up to Reading. The route is relatively flat (about 1000 ft of climb in total) up through Winchester and Woburn. In Woburn, we will pass along the Woburn mall and Commercial St where there may be some traffic to contend with. After the shopping area, the roads become quieter into Reading. We'll stop at Dandi's Ice Cream just pas the halfway point of the ride before circling back.
This ride will again start near the Alewife Craft Food Hall/Alewife Garage. We'll keep a pace of about 15 mph on the average given the flat terrain. This is intended to be a no-drop ride, but you should be in good riding condition with a road bike. We will wait near the top of the few hills and before we turn after long stretches so that everyone can ride at a comfortable pace. While we should return at dusk and you're strongly encouraged to bring lights. Make sure that your bike is in good working order before you leave home. Helmets required. You are responsible for your own safety.
Registration closes at midnight on Wednesday before the ride. If there are fewer than 4 riders, I will cancel. If you sign-up, show up. Everyone will be waitlisted to assure that dedicated riders get a spot. 10 riders max.
I will offer a brief safety talk before we depart promptly at 5:45. If rain is in the forecast, I will cancel the ride by 4 pm.
Next week we'll ride on Tuesday (7/29) for our annual visit to the Revere Beach sandcastles via the Northern Strand. You should consider attending the festival 7/25-7/27) to get the full experience.
If anyone is traveling by car, there is paid parking in the Alewife Garage and some free parking in the lot at the Summer Shack kitty corner from the start. You may also find a spot at Thompson Field in Arlington along the Minuteman path.
