Spring Shakedown Ride – Season Opener
Spring is here (well, almost), which means it’s time for the spring shakedown group gravel/ATB ride. Let’s get MUCKY!
Depending on the weather over the next couple of weeks, you can expect mud, soft roads, and early-season conditions that only Rural New Hampshire can provide. Surfaces may range from firm and fast to crunchy, sloppy, or just plain questionable, depending on what the thaw decides to give us. Did I mention Mud?
Route details: Plan on around 20-ish miles of early spring riding. This ride will be exclusively gravel, paved and dirt(mud), no hike, no singletrack(there is too much snow!) NO DROP, Easy social pace, nothing heroic—just enough distance to stretch the legs. I will post the route a couple of days before.
Date: 3/28/26
Meet: Llewellyn Gazebo CONTOOCOOK RIVERWAY PARK, Contoocook NH
Time: 10:00 AM rollout- arrive early to prepare
Distance: ~20 miles
Return: roughly 12–1ish, depending on conditions and how deep into the mud we go.
Come prepared; this is a self-supported ride. Bring what you’ll need to fix flats, deal with minor mechanical issues, and keep yourself warm, fueled, and hydrated. Proper clothing, a helmet, and a sense of humor are strongly recommended.
Required: Some form of navigation (GPS or phone with maps) and a blinky light or safety triangle.
As always, you ride at your own risk. Joe and Greater Boston and New England Area Cycling are not responsible for you or your equipment.
